MastaBoard Soundshield Systems
|
Description:
Lafarge MastaBoard Soundshield Systems are recommended for the installation of acoustic wall and floor / ceiling systems in residential dwellings class 1 and 2. The high-density core of Lafarge MastaBoard Soundshield achieves enhanced acoustic qualities and an improved level of resistance to fire. Lafarge MastaBoard Fireshield, providing fire protection for timber and steel structures also forms part of this system.
To achieve the best Rw from acoustic installation systems for each room, the room type, design and position of doors and windows (creating leaks and gaps ideal for sound to travel) as well as appliances, should also be considered.
What Rw / STC is recommended in the walls / ceilings in the home?
The table below shows airborne sound insulation requirements in a number of countries.

Australia
(existing BCA) |
Generally Rw 45 but Rw 50 for walls between a habitable room (not kitchen) in one sole occupancy unit and a bathroom, kitchen etc in an adjacent sole occupancy unit |
No criteria other than in general construction terms and "satisfactory" for wall impact. |
