Fire & Acoustic Systems
Fire Test Reports – BRANZ
The wall and ceiling systems listed in this selector manual were tested by BRANZ (a TELARC/NATA registered testing authority) in accordance with AS 1530.4-1990 Fire Resistance Tests of Elements of Building Construction.

Fire Technical Opinions – BRANZ
Letters of Opinion issued by BRANZ are based on technical data recorded during the fire resistance tests.

The wall systems also meet the requirements of the BCA C1.8 Lightweight Construction and were tested by BRANZ in accordance with the following:
  • Resistance to Static Pressure ASTM E72-80
  • Resistance to Impact ASTM E695-79
  • Surface Indentation AS2185 Appendix A2
  • BRANZ Test Reports STR 213, STR 271 and STR 276
  • CSIRO Test Report DTS 259

ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE
Installed acoustic performance of finished wall systems in most cases falls short of measured laboratory results. Acoustic measurements in a typical laboratory test represent the maximum performance that can be achieved. Meticulous care goes into the installation of the sample wall. Actual site conditions are usually less than ideal and it is normal for sound flanking paths to exist around the perimeter of the wall system. Paths may be minimised by sealing the perimeter with acoustic sealant and installing services to acoustic rated details.

PREDICTIONS
Predictions of acoustic performance of plasterboard wall configurations are based on laboratory measurements of a number of Lafarge Plasterboard wall systems. From these measurements, a mathematical model of the partition system has been used to predict the acoustic performance of other configurations of plasterboard thickness, layers and stud sizes. These tests and predictions should only be used as a guide. Lafarge Plasterboard cannot guarantee acoustic performance.

Where acoustic performance of the wall system is critical, professional acoustic advice should be sought.
