FLY FORBO WINNER ANNOUNCED FOR 2007

Cox Rayner Architects has been named as the winner of the 2007 Fly Forbo & Fly to Europe competition, for the fitout of Suncorp Brisbane Square.

The Fly Forbo & Fly to Europe competition, run in conjunction with the Interior Design Awards, recognizes outstanding use of Forbo products in design innovation. This is the fourth year that the prize has been awarded and, thanks to the high standard of entries submitted, the first time a runner-up was announced.

Judges for the competition praised the Suncorp project for its commitment to environmentally sustainable design (ESD) principles, which ensured the equivalent of a five-Green-Star rating for the interior fitout. They also highlighted the interior’s distinct visual appeal and its ability to convey a subtropical Queensland character, all achieved using innovative sustainable materials, including Forbo Marmoleum, Furniture Linoleum and Bulletin Board.

Forbo materials helped to create social work hubs and a variety of meeting spaces in an interior design focused on reducing the building’s institutional characteristics.

For example, Marmoleum was used in the lobby and the main entry area of level 28, an entire floor allocated to meeting with customers and staff interaction. Marmoleum was also selected for the plaza areas and breakout or cafe sections.

Bulletin Board was chosen for specialist areas like meeting or resource rooms, and Furniture Linoleum was selected for joinery, most often overlaying a ply top. The “quiet room” features a Bulletin Board wall and linoleum-topped joinery.

Cox Rayner Architects wins a 12-night trip for two to Europe plus $1,500 spending money, a visit to 100% Design in London and a stop at Forbo’s design studios in Holland, to meet the Forbo design team, who have attracted many accolades including two prestigious Red Dot awards for product design and innovation.

Studio3 Design secured the runner-up prize for its brilliantly colourful Modern Teaching Aids fitout, which incorporated Forbo Marmoleum and was commended by the judges for its visual appeal and outstanding use of line and colour.
