| FORBO FLOORING FULFILS ACOUSTIC REQUIREMENTS AT A FRENCH HIGH SCHOOL |
Sarlon® Quartz Legend flooring by Forbo was chosen for the renovation of the Libergier High School in Reims, France.
The Libergier High School in Reims, France, has 8,000 m2 of Forbo Flooring’s Sarlon® Quartz Legend flooring installed in its corridors and classrooms. The project, designed by Reims-based architects J.P. Thomas, is a dynamic renovation of a historic building in the centre of Reims. New spaces have been created both inside and underneath the existing building.
The school’s boldly coloured and clearly articulated corridors overlook a well-used central courtyard space. The bright, energetic colours specified for these busy, street-like corridors enliven the existing building from both inside and outside. In the school’s classrooms, the flooring colours switch to darker shades – clearly distinguishing the busy corridors from the spaces for teaching and learning. The acoustic specifications of Forbo Flooring’s Sarlon® Quartz Legend project vinyl made it ideal for this heavy traffic application. The dense PVC foam backing of the vinyl provides 17 dB sound insulation and indentation resistance of less than 0.10 mm. The 24 colours in the Sarlon® Quartz Legend range can be used to create vibrant spaces in schools, hospitals, aged care facilities and offices.
In October 2006, Daniel Stelini and Pip McCully from Carr Design Group, the winners of the 2006 Fly Forbo and Fly to Europe design competition, visited the Libergier High School. Carr Design Group won the annual design competition, which is run in conjunction with the Interior Design Awards, for their Equiset tenancy project in Melbourne. The itinerary for Stelini and McCully’s European study tour included the London Design Festival, site visits to new architectural projects in Amsterdam, Paris and Reims and guided tours of Forbo Flooring’s design and production facilities in Amsterdam and Reims. The school’s principal and Laurent Thalot from Forbo led the Libergier High School site visit. |
